Title: Ice-Cool Truckers Bootlegger challenge
Post by: [furrycat] on 2015-08-24 07:33:18
The challenge: Starting at Weyl Gateway in the Alacarakmo system on the fringes of civilised space, fly to any eight of twenty-one eligible systems and return with a full hold of rare goods including at least one from each of the eight.  The winner is the pilot who lands back at Weyl Gateway in the shortest time.

To win you'll need a ship with a high jump range; to reach each waypoint quickly, high speed; to dock and launch in minimal time; and lots of internal component bays, to fit cargo racks, shields and defences.

I attempted the challenge in a ship with none of those things: the Sidewinder Mk I.

I'm guessing all of that selling at the end was the result of a successful bootleg run?

What was with the sparking control panels during all of the repeated jumps?   Overtaxing the ship?

Yes and yes.  Flying too close to stars, eg to scoop fuel, will overheat things.  Too much and things can malfunction.  Like the cargo hatch, allowing the merchandise to fall out.  Or your engines.

It might be a good idea to not locate your engines within the cargo hold.

That's some bad Space Engineering right there.
