A tad long in my humble opinion, but it has a worthy payoff in hte end.  PSX shows the various hilarious ways to end the VIPs life

I liked it.  I thought it showed the animations really well and what the good and bad aspects of the game really are.

One thing that I noticed right away is the comms.  There don't appear to be any. That was the one really cool aspect of SWAT3, that you could be the EL, issue commands to the other team members, to the bad guys, etc.

Another is that the "run" doesn't seem too fast.  I'm sure someone will make the argument that you can't run fast with all that shit on, and I know first hand that you can.  I think the run animation should be a little quicker.

I did think the crouch, the reloading, and the limping animations were really good.

The music was a little weak, but I guess that's PSX's fault!

Anyway, thanks for the video.  Good Job.

HEY! Don't criticise my music taste Wink lol..

Nah I know it's not the best track in places... there's a section in it just repeating "ummmm... na mahhhh...naraayyyy annnn-a" which gets a little irritating but in all honesty that was the only track I found which lasted over 9 minutes lol..

And if I hadn't used that then I wouldnt have got the excellent matching with the tazer firing, then "this is dangerous".. and the shotgun execution matching the start of the beat wink

Anyhow enough about music.. Nope there are no communications at all in this beta. There are however lists of commands buried in the game's ini files, so we'll definitely have a numpad-activated command tree as in SWAT3 for co-op mode. I don't know if they plan to put in communications for the deathmatch modes.

The movement speed is very very slow. Controlled and smooth is one thing, being able to dodge out of the way of flying bullets is another.. However, it turns out this can be easily changed via a mod, and hopefully the devs will correct it for us anyway. Fault has been listed on SWAT4 forum.

And the killing of the VIP did have a function Wink I wanted to show that the ragdoll effects work pretty well here.. and it's nice to have some real physics in a SWAT game!

Glad you liked the vid smile

ive played a couple of times,  think it has potential, as long as the dev's dont screw it up and make it to deathmatchish.

Well, another criticism would be the game mode.  VIP escort is ok, but considering the team successful if the VIP is killed before the two minutes are up is rediculous.  And I've never seen a VIP with a weapon before.

Another issue is level design.  First, as a fan of realism, I think that the building that you're in should be realistic.  If I were the fire inspector, I'd shut the place down.  There are no stairs to get out.  All stairwells are in odd locations and only go up or down one level.

I realize that they want to add depth or time or obstacles or whatever to the game, but they can do that other ways, by blocking an otherwise perfectly designed stairwell, for instance.  The room layout was awkward, too many connecting doorways instead of dead end rooms, etc.

Just my thoughts.

you have to remember one thing,  "It's a DEMO"  i dont expect the game to be anything like this demo.  except for the graphics and some of the key layout.

SO?  Demo is just a DEMONSTRATION of the real thing.  Granted, they can and will make changes before the real one is out, but that doesn't mean that it'll all change if you don't say something.

PS:  I would've put these thoughts up on the VUG forums, but I think they're down.  I haven't been able to get them all day.

If you look closely in the options, there's a place where you can set up your mouse to open some sort of window, and then selecting an option in that window. In game and out of game, my preferences didn't change a damned thing. I think that the game will probably incorporate a dynamic command system activated by said menu.

Edit: As for the whole "If it's in the game, it should be in the demo" argument... this BETA demo is being released almost 6 months before the game is released, which means there's probably another good 3 or 4 months of development that have yet to be put into the game. If you want everything NOW, then the game would probably be getting released late December or early January.

It's not that we want it now. It's that we want to be sure they don't forget it when the real game is released.  If you don't point this stuff out, how will they know what you wanted?

I'd say it's a safe bet that this "level" will be in the game, bizarre layout and all.

How naive. You think they care.

Yeah it helps.  After all we will be able to have teh lobbies and  no expanding ret, 10+ player co-op....no wait, they snubbed those VITAL issues.

I don't know how you could think that I'm naive.  I was one of the loudest critics of the 2.x patches on SWAT 3.

However, giving the new dev team the benefit of the doubt is easy enough to do.  Believe it or not, I do try to be optimistic from time to time.

Nevertheless, I'm sure there will be several major areas of weakness in this game because look how far we are into this process already.  If they really wanted to make the game that everyone wanted, wouldn't they have recruited some of these beta testers into a focus group before they ever started the development?  That would at least have given them something to shoot for.  As it is, we're asking them to include things into the game that it was never able to include because it wasn't developed that way (such as lobbies).

But we can ask them to tweak what is there to make it better (such as getting rid of the Icky syrup).  So, if you don't ask, you won't get.  Obviously, I don't get my hopes up too far because that way the disappointment won't be too severe.

Probably the best way to get rid of 'Icky syrup' is to not let him rub himself on your leg in the first place.
