I probably should have posted this first...
Note that the rest of the post is in my own words so I might have missed some stuff out. Visit DnL.net

Dark and Light is a new MMORPG that will be released in April. It's kinda based on D&D. I say kinda as it doesn't appear to use the D&D rules but they have the same notions of classes, alignments and skills as D&D games. Yes it is an elves game but it looks like it has a lot more depth than your average WoW or EQ...What cool features will it have?
Lots and lots. See the FAQ at Stratics for more details.
You can level up one of 16 different classes. At level 5 you choose between Healer, Fighter, Hunter or Caster. At level 20 you specialise. Healers would pick from Druid, Cleric, Enchanter or Monk for example. Rather than simply progress through the levels you will pick from skills available to you. After level 35 you will start to get skills that no other class can have. All levels after level 50 allow you to increase the strength of your abilities but not learn new skills. So if you want to grind you can be "better" but it isn't necessary.
You can also level up Exploration, allowing you to make maps. This might well be useful as the game world is going to be mahoosiv. The figure 40,000km squared has been mentioned. That's twenty times the combined size of all SWG planets put together. Someone calculated it would take three hours (real time) to ride an SWG swoop from one side of the DnL world to the other...
Everyone will be on one server/shard. You won't have to load into different parts of the world. It will be like Flashpoint in having one huge map.
There will be PvP and you can loot (some) money from players you kill. But there will be safe zones where you can't get attacked so PvP is not mandatory. If you attack players of a lower level you risk their god intervening and smacking you down, and repeatedly killing people could give you criminal status; you will be attacked on sight by NPC police.
There will be crafting: weapons, armour, food and other stuff. Optimal crafting conditions will arise not just when you have the best resources but also when planetary alignment is in your favour. It could literally take months of waiting for the "best" time to craft.
You can brew beer, drink it and get drunk.
Guilds can have castles.
You can tame and train pets. There will be mounts.

SoG is billed as a free "preview" of DnL. It will use a subsection of the game world (probably around 5,000km2 or so) and allow you to run some of the quests and level up a subset of the skills.
SoG is not a beta. Players are not expected to submit bug reports or concentrate on testing specific areas of the game. It's a free, standalone thing.
SoG will run from December 8th until the full release of DnL in April 2006.Who can play SoG?
The 8,881 people who got a DnL preorder key (the Pioneers) can play.
10,000 more people will be able to play if they snag a free key. No ETA on release of these keys as of yet. That makes a total of 18,881 players.Who can play DnL?
Pioneers can play. Anyone else will have to buy the game. Playing SoG does not give you the right to play DnL unless you preordered.What cool stuff do Pioneers get in DnL?
* Access to the game 48h before the proles.
* A month of free play.
* Dragon pet.
* Map of the battles that happened in SoG.
* "Pioneer" tag.
* Keep your money from SoG.
* Inherit a "family heirloom" from your SoG character.Is it going to rock hard?
