Linky for those that were thinking about re-subbing to aoc.  I was toying with the idea for a while but this has pretty much sealed the deal.  It's too bad because I rather enjoyed the combat system, including the DDR style button pushing and the blood/guts.

Yeah, it's a damn shame. Funny part is, I told the guy who gave me a Warhammer Online trial key that I was thinking of resubbing AoC and he said he didn't view AoC as being a "completed game." It plays like MMO paradise compared to that POS Warhammer, though.

Combat, Tortage and some of the post-Tortage quests made the time/money investment worth it, but outside of that there wasn't much to bother with.  Some things might have been sorted out eventually but just based on how they designed the world, I don't think any social and/or economic cultures were going to establish themselves even if Funcom was making money on the game.

It seemed like they didn't know what they wanted the game to be. They had some good subsystems but the overall vision was fuzzy and not fully thought through  I thought they said it wasn't going to be a loot based game, but gear did seem to matter and crafting wasn't developed enough so that left us with looting bosses in dungeons.  Which could have been ok if they designed dungeons and bosses as a challenging highpoint of the game, like I imagine WoW to be, but instead it was a pretty lackluster activity.

I think you definitely hit a point with them not knowing what they wanted the game to be. In the past months they've been pandering to the vocal minority, spending their time improving PvP and adding DX10 support because people whined that it wasn't in at ship like they promised. But only a small percentage of their players are even interested in PvP, and DX10 is just fluff.

The massive PvP sieges sounded interesting to me, but I wasn't about to join a huge guild full of adolescents just for that. The "mercenary" feature that lets you fight for a guild for a single siege battle sounded interesting, but I never had a clue how to go about doing that (is there even a UI for it?). It seems like a flawed concept anyway, since I would think a guild would be hesitant to spent its gold on random unreliable people just to bolster its ranks, unless gold is so plentiful that it's worthless.

PvE sieges would have kept me in the game for several more months, but that feature isn't even on the horizon anymore. Their "item overhaul" that's supposed to make loot somewhat useful and the stats on it less confusing also probably would have lured me back, but that still isn't finished. On the "epic boss battle" side of things, the Kylikki (sp) fight in the crypt was pretty fun and actually required some teamwork/strategy, but that was the only such battle I came across.

Free trial is available now for those who didn't get a chance to check out the game yet. I realize it may fail at any time but I still think it's fun and would be willing to resub for a time if at least a couple other people want to play.

Not that I have any interest in resubbing but this is one impressive patch:

I'm wondering if "All items have been adjusted for the new systems!" means that this patch includes the item overhaul, since that's what I've been waiting for. Just not sure what these "new systems" are. I might hop on just to see how it plays... although I'm sure ArmA2 will be taking up most of my time for awhile.

Well, I have two free weeks of the game coming to me, so I plan on taking some time out from ArmA2 to test out the new changes, which do seem to include the item overhaul I've been waiting on. There's also an expansion pack on the way, so it doesn't look like the game is quite as dead as we thought.
