Some kind of space combat
« on: 2010-08-04 16:10:44 »

Details are pretty much nonexistent but speculation abounds.  There will be some sort of space action.

As the article and forum points out, making it like JTL would rock hard.

Iíd even argue that Jump to Lightspeed took things one step further. Not only did it do a pretty good job at capturing the action of a Star Wars space experience, but it also, ironically enough, captured the Star Trek experience better than even Star Trek Online did in a certain way. The aforementioned larger ships often featured fully customizable interiors, multiple decks, and even multiple roles for players on the ship to fill. Players onboard these ships could man the turrets, pilot, execute programs and more from the co-pilot seat, or even actively repair the ship in the engine room. Sure, it didnít allow for the city-sized populations of various Star Trek ships, but it did a pretty good job of re-creating the social atmosphere and multi-person crew that many Star Trek fans sought out to experience in Star Trek Online years later.

Wow, the author has almost convinced me that SOE should have made STO.

That actually looks pretty good. I always liked Freelancer's control scheme. From the vid the feel of it doesn't seem as tight as TIE Fighter or other dedicated space sim, but it's pretty impressive for an MMO.

Was it my imagination or did space look pretty damn nice?

I'd say it looks almost... spacey. But watching it again, is it actually... *gulp*... on rails (ala Starfox/Rebel Assault)?
