Minecraft worlds back to NFS
« on: 2013-02-11 05:05:12 »

In the beginning the [server] data was stored on a separate VM and accessed over the network.  The VM infrastructure was underspecced and we saw lag and "can't keep up" messages in the logs.

First we moved the world data to local storage to eliminate the network overhead.  It had a small but positive effect.  Later of course we upgraded the host server so the VMs had more CPU power.  Since then Minecraft has been running well (when not drawing maps).

Now I have moved the world data back to network storage so it's easier to back up.  Let me know if you see poor performance again.

If it persists let me know. It's entirely possible that the change is the reason.
